What does it mean to tokenize an asset in blockchain?

Hey guys, I just want to know what exactly tokenizing an asset in blockchain means? I don't know much about NFT's or crypto tokens in general and I would like to learn more for investment purposes. Appreciated tons x

Asset tokenization is the process of transferring ownership rights of a tangible or intangible asset into blockchain tokens. For instance, you can issue 2,000,000 tokens to represent a property valued at $2,000,000. Each token will represent about 0.0005% of the property’s total value.
