Is Ethereum different from Vitalik Buterin’s first vision of it?
Asked 4 years ago
There's a lot of information available on the features and pros of Ethereum today. But what I can't seem to find out is what Vitalik Buterin first envisioned for Ethereum and if his 2022 goals for the future of the blockchain platform have changed since its first conception. Can anyone please explain if Ethereum today is different from Vitalik Buterin’s first vision of it? Looking forward to learning more

To best answer this question, it is important to note that Buterin’s first vision was making Ethereum a “world computer.” During the recent Bankless podcast, Buterin assessed Ethereum’s progress towards its original vision of being more scalable and secure while maintaining decentralization. He categorically said that Ethereum is halfway to fulfilling its original vision. Furthermore, he said that the network would achieve 60% when the current Ethereum Mainnet merges with the Beacon Chain Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. Besides, he opined that it would pass 80% when they execute a complete sharding execution, splitting Ethereum into several portions known as ‘shards.’
