Will my security be compromised if my Trezor wallet overheats?
Asked 2 years ago
Hey there, I always hear that the best way to keep one's digital assets in a hardware wallet is to make sure that it is in the best condition. I worry that my Trezor and my assets may be compromised when it is not in good condition, so I always make sure that I don’t drop it or have it near liquids. However, what happens if it overheats? Will that make the security easy to breach and allow attackers easy access to my keys?

High temperatures, humidity, salt, grease, dust, and other elements degrading electronics pose a security threat to Trezor wallets. As such, you should treat your wallet with the same care you give your smartphone or laptop. Trezor models are designed slightly differently; hence, they display different tolerance levels. The Trezor Model 1 is more robust as it consists of fewer components, while the Trezor Model T is less tolerant to environmental damage because of touchscreen exposure.
Generally, Trezor wallets can last for several years under normal conditions. Therefore, ensure you don’t expose them to situations that can overheat or wet them. For your information, you can buy wallet accessories, like a screen protector or silicone case, to reduce the risk of environmental damage. Importantly, ensure you safely keep your seed phrase at home to avoid losing access to your assets permanently.
